Quick Review - TRESemme 24 Hour Body Volumising Range

I love big hair, the bigger the better but I also hate piling on products like mousse and hair spray everyday. A good 6 months ago, I bought the TRESemme 24 Hour Body Volumising shampoo and conditioner to help me get the big hair I love without all the product pile up. I have been testing it out since, here’s my thoughts on it:
This shampoo and conditioner delivers what it promises. My hair was bouncier and more voluminous after just one wash. The shampoo works as a clarifying shampoo and the conditioner left my hair super soft without being greasy. They retail for  R79.99 each for 900mls which is excellent value for money.

The whole family enjoyed this shampoo, so much so which led me to replacing it sooner than anticipated.

This time I tried the Expert Selection Beauty-Full Volume Shampoo which works on a reverse wash system, basically you condition your hair first before shampooing but for me the 24 Hour Body Volumising shampoo worked out better as it left my hair feeling squeaky clean
Clicks is having a fantastic promo now where you can buy 2 of the selected TRESemme products for R112.00 until 05 March 2019.

I chopped my hair eeeek......

Yes, December last year I bit the bullet and went for a new do, chopped off my hair and added some highlights (I use this term very loosely).

I was scared at first but I felt great. I loved the way my new do frames my face and apparently it makes me look younger, now who doesn't want to look younger.

I’ve included some tips below to consider if you are thinking of a new hair do

#1 Will I be able to maintain my new hair style?

Chopping off all you hair is a fab idea but sometimes the maintenance might be too much of an effort and leave you feeling more tired than excited. In which case maybe think of other ways you can style your current look that might not require as much maintenance.

#2 Will I be comfortable with the new length

I know some people must have their hair at a certain length or longer, if you are one of those peeps, then maybe a few layers might be your answer instead of a new pixie cut.

#3 Choose the best stylist for you

I have gone to the stylist who cut my hair for many other hair dos before. I am very comfortable with her and trusted her to give me my dream new look, which I feel she delivered on. Make sure you are also comfortable with the person you entrust your new look too.

#4 Consider testing the look

There are actually many apps online where you can “test” out a new hair do. Maybe that could give you an idea of the looks you love and the ones you want stay away from. I tried some looks on the YouCam app and although I didn’t end up with the exact look, it really was a great starting point for me.

#5 To Dye or not to Dye

Whether to colour your hair or not is a beeg decision, you have to think about the affects these products will have on your hair, the maintenance and after care and guestimate on the outcome, especially if you are like me and haven’t coloured your hair in the last 12 years. You can try hair chalk, clip in streaks or semi permanent bonded highlights if you want to test drive how coloured hair would look on you.

Changing your look is exciting and I hope these tips help you. Most of all make sure you are happy and comfortable. Also remember that even though they may not be a returns policy on a new hair cut, it will grow back eventually.

Are you more likely to cut or colour your hair, let me know below:

Tried, Tested and Loved

This is the 1st edition of #TTL & I want to make it a regular feature on my blog. I love writing product reviews, I always feel my opinion counts a whole lot and so I love sharing it with anyone who will listen.

Here's a a few products I started using this year and my take on just how awesome they are.

Justine Tissue Oil

I know like where have I been?, I had to switch to this one because I couldn't get my hands on my usual Cocoa Heaven from Bramley.
I like the smell and feel of this oil, its quickly absorbed into the skin and keeps me moisturised without feeling greasy. That’s a pretty grand feat for a beauty oil. I use is whenever I remember too and mostly at night on my face.
Price: R60 for 60ml on special ( They are having a special on 2x 100 ml for R190)
Get Yours From: Local Justine sales rep find yours here

Brush Egg

Ok so, many of my peeps are telling me I don’t need this but, they are soooooo wrong. This mini beauty babe makes brush clean up a breeze, it takes me half the time to wash my brushes and get them really clean. I use this with baby soap and water and it works on both synthetic, natural and combo brush types.
This is pretty hard to come by, I haven’t seen them in many stores. You can buy yours from one of the IG sellers and this one often has them on special.
Price: R60.00

Catrice Long lasting lip pencils

I love lip liners, well I love makeup so this isn’t a shocker. I ordered these ones from Takealot when they were having a sale. Got them at a bargain price. The shades are pretty flattering for most skin tones. They are soft and highly pigmented. If your lips are in super great condition you could get away with using these as matte lip sticks. They can be used to line or full in lips and maybe switch up the colour of lipstick by layering them on before or after lipstick application
Price: R18.00 each on sale
Get yours  from: Takealot or Dischem
Can we ever have too many of these

Pantene Aqua light

I usually use this refreshing spray after I wash my hair or to tame fly aways when I’m tying my hair. It has the most freshest scent ever and isn’t sticky. You can spray as much of this as you like and I promise you there will be no sign of oiliness in sight. Curly hair beauties should try this as a leave in conditioner, you will be amazed at how soon you will fall in love with this miracle worker.
It softens hair and makes frizzy hair more manageable without weighing it down.
Price: R70.00
Gets yours from: Clicks, Dischem, selected Checkers and PnP
Need another one of these soon

Design EyeShadow Palettes

I have ready great things about these palettes from Hayleigh. I was so eager to try them so I jumped at the opportunity when I saw this in Edgars at the beginning of January. You might only spot them at one of their beauty sales so if you see this in the store then you have to act fast. The colour pay off is awesome and I can create a variety of looks with this palette. The golden bronze shades can be used to highlight and bronze. This has to be one of my new favourites.
Price: R53.00
Gets yours from: Edgars whenever you can

My Hair Heroes

Hair for me is one of the most important part of my look, if my hair doesn’t look good or my eyebrows aren’t on fleek, well then I know my look isn’t complete.
I have tried an array of hair styling products over the years. There are some that didn’t sit quite so well with me and some which I always find myself grabbing off the shelves over and over again. So without further a due here it is my list of favourite hair products:

Aussie Mega Volume Shampoo

My hair feels squeaky clean after using this shampoo. Its smells great and offers an instant volume boost without drying my hair out.

TreSemme' Mousse

This mouse smells great and can be used on wet or dry hair. I usually boost its lifting power by using a shot of hot then cold air from a blow dryer with mu head upside down. This mouse is perfect for use before curling your hair as it smooths down nasty fly aways.

Pantene Hair Soufflé

Dry hair, a result of the elements and over styling can be a real downer especially if you want your hair to look healthy. This beauty magician adds moisture without being oily, I use a few pumps before drying my hair and my hair smells wow and feels silky too.

Sunsilk Hair fall hair treatment

This tub has seen me through me long locks and shorter wisps and I adore how soft it leaves my hair. A little goes a long way and the 330ml tub usually lasts me about 6 months or more. I don’t condition after every wash but whenever I do, well this is the one I want to use.

PS If you have oily hair, you can condition your hair before shampooing.

Beauty Bonus DIY Hot Oil Treatment

You Need

  • Amla Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Castor Oil
  • Olive Oil

Method

  • Mix 2 parts of other oils to 1 part castor oil in a glass container (I usually use a shot glass for this).
  • Then warm up, you can do this by placing the container in the microwave for about 5-10 seconds or safer method is to place container in hot water. I love living life on the edge and I’m also very impatient and lazy so I use the microwave.
  • Then apply to your hair, you can leave this on your hair for any amount of time preferably longer than 30 minutes. For a deeper treatment leave overnight, just make sure to sleep on a towel or old pillowcase you don’t want to stain your fine linen now.
  • Wash out as normal, for oily hair don’t condition when washing.
  • Use as often as you like but not every day.
  • PS you can add a few drops of essential oils, like peppermint or lavender to add a nice scent to this.

My Crowning Glory

11 December 2010

Top Tips for your Tresses

My friends and I always agree that a woman's hair is her crowning glory. It goes far beyond a good cut or colour and more into the condition of your hair. It needs to be healthy, shiny and well not falling all over the place (I am quite literal about the last bit.

My hair is naturally curly as you can see in the picture below,

I do straighten it with a flat iron at least once a week which I have been warned is not very good for my hair which makes it all the more important for me take good care of it.

Tip#1 Invest in a good shampoo and conditioner.
Even if you someone who doesn't use a lot of products on your hair, you would still need to use a shampoo to wash your hair. A conditioner is  a good to have and can be used after every alternate wash depending n your preference. When purchasing a shampoo and conditioner there are a few things to consider, your hair type being one, your hairs specific needs eg: hair fall or dandruff and what you want the shampoo to achieve for you eg: clarifying, frizz control, shine and curl enhancers.Experts suggest switching it up a bit, alternating your shampoos every now and then is not a bad thing. Another option to this would be to use a clarifying shampoo every 6 -8 weeks. I am currently using the Sunsilk Co-Created Range - Hair Fall Solution shampoo. This is because I have  experienced some hair fall over the past couple of months and wanted to combat this. I am please to announce that this has worked quite well, I have the Shampoo and the treatment conditioning hair mask.  My hair loss has been decreased and I have received quite a few compliments on how healthy my hair looks.

Tip#2 Don't comb your hair out while its wet
This is a tip that I have learnt recently, whether you are air drying your locks naturally or blow waving it's good practise to only put a brush or comb to it once it is about 90% dry. Reason for this is the fact that your hair is quite fragile when wet and can be broken or snapped easily.

Tip#3 Go Au' Natural
Sometimes, (& I stress on sometimes cos I know how dedicated we girls are to our hot tools and stylers) we just have to work with our natural hair. You can use accessories like alice bands, grips, slides or even flowers to help with this, the trick is  not to use any heat on your hair. As we have been told before consistently heat styling can damage your hair.
Working with your natural texture or even colour is more of a prevention is better that cure type of mindset.
Tip#4 Deep Condition
This is especially necessary if your tresses looks like they lack moisture.
I would suggest at least once a month, but fortnightly it not a bad idea either. There are many types out there including ones for colour treated hair.
Tip#5 Try something new
I know that we all have our favourite ways to wear our hair & that's good cos you always have to have a when in doubt hairstyle. I would also suggest trying out new hair do's, dont have any ideas, search the web. I learnt most of the new styles that I wear now from Youtube.  There's many other sites out there as well. My fave new styles are side french braid. The low bun and the modern pony.
